Community Educator

JOB SUMMARY:
Assists with planning, coordination, and implementing the marketing program for assigned territories. Coordinates activities with the marketing team and hospice staff to ensure that medical and non-medical communities are made aware of hospice services. Works to ensure timely admissions and an increased census.
SUPERVISION:
• Supervised by Patient Care Coordinator
• Supervises: No one.
• Works closely with: CEO, Director of Programs, all hospice staff
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Education: Required: High School Degree or Equivalent. Desired: College degree and/or license or experience in an area related to hospice services, such as healthcare administration, chaplain, social work, medical equipment, or nursing.
Experience: Required: One year of healthcare and/or sales experience. Desired: One year of hospice experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:
a. Current Driver's License
b. Proof of current Automobile Liability Insurance
c. Certificate of Liability with limits of 100/300/100
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
a. Ability to work with all levels of management including: patients and their families.
b. Ability to cope with families experiencing emotional stress
c. Humanitarian attitude with the acceptance of the goals, mission and philosophy of Hospice.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Coordinates, conducts, and maintains accurate records of all marketing activities.
• Promotes/schedules community education activities including but not limited to visiting physicians and nurses, hospital discharge planners, and nursing home Patient Care Coordinators.
• Participates in health fairs, chamber of commerce programs, speaking to church and civic organizations.
• Develop a sense of urgency when responding to referrals with Patient Care Coordinator. Track all referrals you are responsible for.
• Follow marketing routes as assigned by Marketing Director. Keep Marketing Director informed of all referrals.
• Discuss with Marketing Director and PATIENT CARE COORDINATOR/Patient Care
Coordinator/Operations Director regarding training, marketing routes, mileage reports, and Time Off Request to ensure a consistent territory marketing coverage that is efficient and cost effective for Hospice.
• Assists with in-service marketing programs for hospice staff.
• Complete/ type all required marketing reports assigned by Director of Marketing in a timely manner.
• Be available to assist Patient Care Coordinator with admissions, families, or referral sources needing information.
• Attend marketing meetings and give reports on progress.
• Attend IDT Meetings, keep attuned to patient's status, referral sources.
• Assist Director of Marketing with advertising programs, budgets, and in-service programs at local and regional levels.
• Any other duties assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to perform full-range sedentary work requiring sitting, walking, and standing.
• Must possess vision, hearing, feeling, physical strength, and dexterity necessary to perform all the duties of Marketing Representative.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals both verbally and in writing. Must be able to give and receive instructions and information both in person and via telephone.
